Ellis, KS

The state park is located on the south end of the lake on both east and west shores. Since its completion in 1964, the 1,913-acre park has grown to include 203 electric hookup sites with water, 22 boat launching lanes, six modern pit toilets, eight restrooms with showers, one shelter house with restrooms, and four trailer dump stations. Camping is permitted only in designated areas. Seven full-service cabins are available for rental. The park has four designated swimming areas as well as several picnic/day use areas. For the cmaper, there is a mix of primitive and utiltiy camping. These areas range from water's edge to grassy, tree-covered areas along a quiet spring-fed creek.

Kansas' oldest and most centrally located recreation area includes more than 22,000 acres of rolling hills, bluffs and woods. Completed in 1948, Kanopolis Lake covers 3,000 acres and is a prime recreation area located just 33 miles southwest of Salina via highway K-141. Kansas Wildlife and Parks operates two areas, Langley Point or "South Shore" and Horsethief or "East Shore" areas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates two parks as well, Venango and Riverside as well as maintaining access areas at Yankee Run and Boldt Bluff. Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers jointly manage the reservoir and Wildlife area to optimize recreational opportunities.

Perry State Park is located in the southwest portion of Perry Reservoir, four miles north of Highway 237. The park offers some of the finest mountain bike and equestrian trails in the state. The wildlife area is located about 20 miles northeast of Topeka. It may be reached from the east on K-92 through Oskaloosa U.S. 24 provides access to the lower end of the lake. Kansas Wildlife and Parks has license to 10,894 acres of land at the north end of the lake for public hunting. The area comprises nearly 1,000 acres of marshes and several thousands acres of upland game habitat Vehicles should remain on gravel and blacktop roads during wet weather.

Campsites at Prairie Dog include 40 designated sites with electric and water hookups, 12 designated sites with electric hookups. For a more relaxed atmosphere, try the Branded Cedar Campground where 6 electric hookups and numerous non-designated primitive sites are located. Other campsites available throughout the park include 14 designated primitive sites and 125 non-designated primitive sites. Shower and restroom facilities are located throughout the park, as are two RV dump stations. Water is available form April15 through October 15.

The park offers both utility and primitive camping. Utility sites are open year-round. Water hookups and shower buildings are available April through September. Frost-free water hydrants and several vault toilets are open through the winter. For RV users, the park has three dump stations two in Hell Creek and one Otoe. Selected sites can be reserved for a fee through the park office. Available on a first-come first-serve basis, these sites are reservable April 1 through October 31. For visitors who need camping gear, the Rent-A-Camp Program provides tents, stoves, lanterns and other supplies for rent from the office. For those visitors that need camping gear, the Rent – A- Camp Program provides tents, stoves, lanterns and other camping supplies for a modest fee from the park office. All you need to do is have fun!
